Multi-Party Authorization Offers Proactive Protection for Networks, Data Centers, Patient
Records and SCADA Systems
System
Enables Use of a Second (or Even Third) Confirmation from Network or Control System Administrators before
Potentially Incorrect or Malicious Actions Can Take Place
RICHMOND, VA - August 14, 2009
Until recently, network or
control system security measures were based on reactive or forensic methods that could only be used after a
security breach had already occurred, or on limiting techniques that sought to reduce system access. Engedi’s
Key2 Control implements multi-party authorization to provide true pro-active protection from the undesirable
act. It is one of the first technologies to give system and record administrators the power to practice
pro-active security.
Key2 Control enables multi-party authorization (review from another
trusted party) before a potentially incorrect or malicious action can take place, whether flipping a switch,
resetting system passwords or accessing a private electronic record. Use of Key2 Control protects against the
undesirable act of an insider.
When an authenticated and authorized individual requests to perform a
function that is governed by Key2 Control multi-party authorization, the client sends a request to the 2Key
Server to bring in a second set of eyes to review the desired action before it takes place.
The 2nd
party authorizer receives the information about the action the first
person wants to perform. The request includes the identity of the individual wanting to perform the function, the
function they want to perform, parameter information, and other information. The authorizer can then approve,
disapprove or request a conference with the person. “Conference” will either send contact information or
attempt to open communications with the person attempting to perform the
function.
The 2nd
party authorizers are connected to the system and can respond through
workstations, PDAs, cell phones, and other specified devices.
“Protecting systems and records from the undesirable action of an
insider is a need felt by many administrators tasked with security,” said Engedi co-founder and CEO Craig
Palmore. “Key2 Control technology delivers an important pro-active protective capability to keep systems and
records safe from the malicious acts of insiders.”
The technology has direct applications for sensitive medical record
access, industrial process control, utility operations such as wastewater treatment plants, SCADA systems,
and other data center niches with multiple administrators who access and control sensitive information or
activity.
Managing patient data for the healthcare industry is an important
application for Key2 Control technology. With such sensitive data, electronic medical records must have
strict access control policies. Key2 Control gives patients and medical personnel the power to control who
can and cannot access sensitive patient data.
